The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA), together with key European industry associations from the food, feed, forestry, chemicals, publishing, and manufacturing sectors, has co-signed a joint letter calling on the European Commission to urgently clarify the next steps for implementing the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
In the letter, co-signatories express concern that speculation around potential amendments, delays, or simplification of the Regulation is hampering legal certainty and planning. Many businesses have already made significant investments to align with EUDR requirements. Without clear direction, there is a risk of serious disruptions to supply chains essential to European industry, including tyres, automotive parts, construction materials, food and feed, hygiene products, books, and more.
The joint call urges the European Commission and Member States to:
-
Communicate clearly and publicly the expected timeline for EUDR implementation;
-
Provide workable, practical guidance to support implementation efforts in a legally sound and commercially viable way;
-
Ensure consistent interpretation across all Member States, with centralised communication from the Commission to avoid fragmentation.
ETRMA stands ready to continue engaging with EU institutions and partners to ensure the tyre sector’s compliance with EUDR, while safeguarding the resilience and competitiveness of European industry.
