Plastic exports set to double to USD 20 billion by 2027

Plastic exports are projected to double and reach USD 20 billion by 2027, driven by capacity expansion, new markets, and value-added products.

India’s plastics industry is witnessing strong and sustained growth, with the market currently valued at USD 26.5 billion in 2025 and projected to reach USD 44.5 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 11%. Plastic exports are expected to double from USD 10 billion in 2025 to USD 20 billion by 2027, reaffirming India’s expanding role in the global plastics value chain.

“This growth is being driven by large-scale infrastructure programmes and accelerating consumer demand across packaging, automotive, construction, electronics and healthcare, Packaging alone accounts for nearly 42% of the plastics market, supported by rapid e-commerce expansion, underlining the plastics industry’s critical role in modern commerce.” Highlighting India’s export momentum, Mr. Ravish Kamath, President PlastIndia Foundation, an apex bopdy of plastic industry.

 “Exports are a vital indicator of industry strength. India’s plastic exports reached approximately USD 10 billion in early 2025, Against this backdrop, PLASTINDIA 2026, the world’s largest international plastics exhibition and India’s first-ever 100% zero-waste exhibition, will be held from February 5–10, 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi to further boost exports . The six-day triennial event is expected to host over 2,000 exhibitors and attract more than 6 lakh footfall from India and across the world, showcasing the scale, strength and global competitiveness of the Indian plastics industry.” Said Mr Kamath.

The Plastindia event covering plastic films, industrial parts and specialty polymers. To further boost exports and position India as a global plastics leader, the Plastindia Foundation is organising PLASTINDIA 2026 – ‘Bharat Next’, a six-day platform connecting Indian manufacturers with global buyers, investors and technology partners.” Said Mr Kamath.

“PLASTINDIA 2026 will host a series of high-impact initiatives designed to strengthen policy dialogue, global trade and sustainability. These include a CEO Conclave, bringing together industry leaders and policymakers, and a Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) that will facilitate structured one-to-one meetings between Indian exhibitors and international buyers, accelerating exports and long-term business collaborations.” He added.

PLASTINDIA 2026 will also host the Startup Search Initiative, developed in collaboration with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP). Adding a powerful experiential and educational dimension to the exhibition, PLASTINDIA 2026 will feature a 20,000 sq. ft. Open Air Museum, a first-of-its-kind initiative in India. The museum will showcase the positive and responsible role of plastics through towering sculptures, interactive installations and themed zones.

“PLASTINDIA 2026 is being organised as a 100% zero-waste exhibition, showcasing a modern, responsible and globally competitive Indian plastics industry,” said Mr. Alok Tibrewala, Chairman, National Executive Committee, PLASTINDIA 2026. “With over 2,000 exhibitors, the exhibition will highlight innovation, sustainability and digital transformation across the entire plastics value chain, clearly demonstrating that Indian manufacturers are ready to meet global demand.”

Mr. Tibrewala further noted, “India’s plastics industry is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by growth in infrastructure, housing and digital sectors. As initiatives such as Digital India gain momentum, plastics will play an increasingly important role in emerging sectors such as space, semiconductors and defence. PLASTINDIA 2026 is being positioned as a global benchmark that reflects India’s manufacturing capabilities and future aspirations.”
