Tosoh Corporation has announced an increase in polyethylene resin prices in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, which have disrupted supply chains and driven up raw material costs.
The company stated that specific details of the price adjustments will be released to the market in phases. The conflict has significantly impacted naphtha availability, prompting Tosoh to modify operations at its ethylene production facilities. Restart plans for units previously under scheduled maintenance have been delayed, while certain facilities have reduced output as planned. To maintain stable supply of key products, the company is closely managing raw material inventories.
As Japan’s largest ethylene purchaser, Tosoh continues to operate its ethylene-related facilities at the Yokkaichi Plant and Nanyo Plant in a stable and controlled manner, aiming to minimize the impact of supply chain disruptions.
The company is also actively adapting to volatility in the global polyolefin market by optimizing its production structure. Ongoing integration and capacity adjustments for ethylene derivatives remain on track. The price increase aligns with broader global trends, as polyethylene prices across Asia continue to rise, largely driven by supply constraints linked to the Middle East.
