Uzbek Scientists Develop Eco-Friendly Biodegradable Plastic Wrap

Uzbek scientists develop an eco-friendly biodegradable plastic wrap, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional packaging materials.

Uzbek researchers have introduced a promising innovation to address the growing problem of plastic pollution. Conventional plastics take hundreds of years to break down, causing serious environmental and health concerns worldwide.

To tackle this issue, scientists from Uzbekistan’s Academy of Sciences have developed a new type of fully biodegradable plastic film made from plant-based materials. The film is produced using water-soluble natural polymers extracted from locally available plant sources, making it both environmentally friendly and economically beneficial.

The new biodegradable film looks and functions similar to traditional polyethylene plastic, with comparable strength and flexibility. However, unlike conventional plastics, it breaks down naturally in soil and water without releasing harmful toxins.

This eco-friendly material has strong potential for use in industries such as food packaging and pharmaceuticals, where sustainable packaging solutions are increasingly needed. Researchers believe that adopting such biodegradable materials could significantly reduce plastic waste and promote more sustainable consumption practices.

The development is seen as both a scientific breakthrough and a practical step toward a greener future, with opportunities for large-scale industrial production using renewable local resources.
