Kentucky recycling manufacturer expands in Southern Indiana

Kentucky-based recycling manufacturer Global Polymers will relocate and expand operations to Charlestown, Indiana, bringing new jobs, major investment, and long-term economic growth to the region.

Kentucky-based recycling manufacturer Global Polymers has announced plans to relocate and expand its operations to Charlestown in southern Indiana, a move expected to bring new jobs, significant investment and long-term economic benefits to the region. The company said the expansion is driven by rising demand for recycled plastic resin and Charlestown’s readiness to support future growth.

Global Polymers specialises in recycling plastic scrap into resin used by injection moulding companies across multiple industries. Founded in 1992 by Barry McRoberts, the company currently processes around 40 million pounds of recycled resin annually. With the new facility in Charlestown, production capacity is expected to double to nearly 80 million pounds per year once operations are fully ramped up.

“Our move to Charlestown will allow us to increase production while continuing our environmental mission,” McRoberts said. “We take plastic scrap generated by companies, process it into pellets and convert it into resin for injection moulding. This helps reduce carbon footprints and keeps plastic waste out of landfills.”

Global Polymers will relocate to an existing facility on Quality Court, which offers substantially more space for material storage and operational expansion. The company plans to invest more than $8.5 million in the facility. The expansion is expected to create up to 30 new jobs by 2030, with an average hourly wage exceeding $31, well above the Clark County average. Local economic development officials welcomed the move, citing its positive impact on employment and regional growth.

Matt Hall, senior economic development specialist at One Southern Indiana, said the city and county are committed to supporting the company’s expansion. “These new jobs will help drive the local economy as employees spend and invest in the community,” he said. Global Polymers expects to begin moving equipment into the Charlestown facility in the coming months, with a complete transition planned over the next two years.
