Circularix starts up recycling facility in Florida

Circularix, a Los Angeles-based company that produces food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) resin, has announced the completion and commercial startup of its new recycling facility in Ocala, Florida.

The company says the site complements its flagship facility in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, and significantly expands its ability to deliver food-grade rPET resin to consumer brands. Each facility is capable of producing 55 million pounds of food-grade rPET pellets annually. “We built and commissioned this plant in record time,” Circularix founder and CEO Leon Farahnik says. “From landing equipment in mid-March to reaching full production by Aug. 1, this milestone is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team. Their commitment made it possible to bring our second facility online at unprecedented speed.”

In addition to the Ocala launch, Circularix has begun plans to double capacity in Hatfield by taking over the adjacent industrial space. Once complete, the company says the expansion will allow the location to produce 110 million pounds of pellets per year. “With added capacity in Florida and future growth underway in Pennsylvania, we’re in a stronger position to allocate more high-quality rPET to our core partners and support their packaging sustainability goals,” Farahnik says. The company notes that is mission is to ensure rPET “meets the highest standards” of quality, consistency and safety for use in beverage, food and consumer packaging applications. With the Ocala facility now operational, Farahnik says the company plans to build a network of sites across the U.S., with its long-term pellet production goals to be guided by its core customers.

“There is no limit to our growth and investment, as long as there is market support,” Farahnik tells Recycling Today, adding that the Ocala location, in particular, proved to be an “excellent choice, as Florida offers a very favorable business environment. We also saw it as an underserved region from a processing standpoint, creating a strategic opportunity.”
