AkzoNobel launches new polyurethane for wood and acrylic coatings systems

AkzoNobel has launched the Selva Pro range of 2K polyurethane for wood and acrylic coatings systems for the professional and industrial woodworking community.

The systems will be part of the Chemcraft wood coatings product portfolio – drawing inspiration from Italian-inspired formulations. All elements of the new systems are being manufactured in modern, North American facilities using high-quality raw materials and following stringent standards for quality assurance.

The Selva Pro range is backed by decades of industry expertise and research and development to provide proven, well-rounded performance for drying time, sanding, hardness, chemical resistance, and potlife. The Selva Pro range comprises three systems and provides a complete spectrum of sheens, from high gloss to dead flat, and offers limitless color possibilities for the most creative imaginations.

Selva Pro Chiaro and Selva Pro Bianco are both high-build, high-solids, clear, and pigmented 2K polyurethane for wood systems that provide robust protection against wear and moisture, making them ideal for areas like kitchens and bathrooms. Durable yet soft to the touch, both Chiaro and Bianco are formaldehyde-free formulas with minimal odor. They share the same hardener, with a consistent 2:1 mix ratio to further reduce complexity for the user.

Selva Pro Bianco also offers unlimited color opportunities and excellent tinting stability (when using a neutral base), especially with lower-sheen finishes. The third system, Selva Pro Acrilico, is a 2K acrylic system. Its smooth formulation enhances wood grain and is ideal for expressive and/or high-quality wood types.

Acrilico comes with multiple finish options: a pigmented topcoat; a neutral topcoat; a clear topcoat; and a clear topcoat that has a modern dead flat finish inspired by the latest trends. The range is being launched with a compact selection of hardeners and simple, consistent mix ratios which will ensure streamlined inventory, easy training, and accurate application.

“Meticulous development and comprehensive testing have resulted in exceptional, well-rounded performance in polyurethane for wood, offering a range that is easy to use and achieves beautiful results.”

He says, “With Italian-inspired formulations, made locally and readily available across North America via our extensive distributor network, we expect it to become the ultimate choice for craftsmen and manufacturers alike.” The compact selection of hardeners within the Selva Pro range and the simple, consistent mix ratios mean inventory management is streamlined, product training is easy, and the application is accurate and reliable—making it a top choice in polyurethane for wood.
