New GrapheneBlack xGnP technology delivers stronger films, supports recycled content use, and advances sustainable packaging solutions
NanoXplore and Techmer PM have announced the commercial launch of GrapheneBlack xGnP™, a graphene-enhanced masterbatch designed to improve the performance of high-performance plastic film applications. The new solution combines advanced graphene technology with polymer engineering expertise to help manufacturers produce stronger, lighter, and more sustainable plastic films.
The newly developed masterbatch has demonstrated significant improvements in mechanical performance, enabling film producers to enhance strength while potentially reducing material usage. According to the companies, the technology can increase film durability and may allow manufacturers to reduce film thickness without compromising key properties such as tensile strength, tear resistance, and puncture performance. This capability offers potential cost savings while supporting material efficiency initiatives.
A major advantage of the GrapheneBlack xGnP™ platform is its ability to facilitate the incorporation of higher levels of recycled content into plastic film formulations. As packaging producers face increasing regulatory pressure and sustainability targets, the technology could help manufacturers maintain product performance while expanding the use of recycled polymers in flexible packaging structures.
The product is the result of a long-term collaboration between NanoXplore, a leading graphene producer, and Techmer PM, a specialist in custom polymer compounds and masterbatch solutions. The partnership combines NanoXplore’s proprietary graphene technology with Techmer PM’s expertise in film applications, compounding, and materials design. Their collaboration builds on an established strategic relationship focused on expanding graphene applications across industrial markets.
One of the key factors behind the product’s performance is Techmer PM’s advanced dispersion technology, which ensures uniform distribution of graphene throughout the polymer matrix. Improved dispersion contributes to consistent performance, reliable processing, and greater batch-to-batch uniformity, all of which are critical for large-scale commercial film production.
To accelerate product development and customer adoption, Techmer PM is also providing in-house film manufacturing capabilities, including pilot-scale blown film production for formulation testing and performance validation. This allows packaging manufacturers to evaluate graphene-enhanced films under real-world processing conditions and shorten the path from development to commercialization.
The launch reflects growing interest in graphene as a performance-enhancing additive for plastics and packaging applications. Industry experts view graphene as a promising material for improving strength, lightweighting, barrier properties, and sustainability performance across a wide range of polymer products. With increasing demand for recyclable and resource-efficient packaging solutions, the new GrapheneBlack xGnP™ masterbatch could play an important role in helping manufacturers meet both performance and environmental objectives.
