The new Geolandar X-CV range offers 32 sizes from 16 to 20 inches, targeting crossover, premium SUVs and electric vehicles in India.
Yokohama India has launched the GEOLANDAR X-CV tyre range for crossover and premium SUVs, expanding its offering to include smaller wheel sizes and electric vehicles. The new range is designed to address growing demand for tyres that combine wet-road grip, comfort, durability and high-speed stability.
The GEOLANDAR X-CV will eventually be available in 32 sizes ranging from 16 to 20 inches, making it Yokohama’s widest dedicated tyre range for crossover and premium SUVs in India. Seventeen sizes are available initially, with the remaining sizes planned over the following two to three months.
A key development is the expansion of the tyre into 16-inch applications. Originally developed primarily for larger premium and luxury SUVs, the range can now target compact and mid-size crossover SUVs as well as larger premium models.
The tyre is also EV-compatible, with its construction designed to accommodate the higher vehicle weight and instant torque associated with electric SUVs. This makes the product relevant to India’s rapidly developing electric mobility segment.
According to Yokohama’s internal testing, the GEOLANDAR X-CV delivers up to 20% better wet grip and 10% longer tyre life compared with a conventional tyre. The company has developed the tyre with a focus on wet traction, braking performance, durability, stability and driving comfort.
From a rubber and tyre technology perspective, the GEOLANDAR X-CV incorporates an asymmetric tread pattern, four wide circumferential grooves, Micro Silica technology and 2D–3D combination sipes. These features are designed to improve wet grip, braking, resistance to hydroplaning and overall tyre performance.
The tyre also uses 5-Pitch Variation Technology to reduce road noise, while reinforced two-ply sidewalls and a full nylon cover are intended to improve durability and high-speed stability. These characteristics are particularly relevant for heavier crossover SUVs and EVs.
The launch comes as India’s SUV segment continues to expand. Yokohama is seeking to leverage this market shift by bringing premium tyre technologies to a broader range of vehicles, including compact crossovers, mid-size SUVs, luxury SUVs and electric SUVs.
Yokohama is also expanding its manufacturing footprint in India. The company has previously announced an US$82 million investment to increase passenger-car tyre capacity at its Visakhapatnam facility from 2.8 million to 4.5 million units annually.
The GEOLANDAR X-CV will be available in India from August 2026 through Yokohama Club Network outlets and select authorised dealers. The launch reinforces Yokohama’s focus on developing advanced tyre solutions for India’s growing SUV, crossover and electric-vehicle markets.
