Adperma Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL), has inaugurated a new integrated phenol and acetone manufacturing facility in Haldia, West Bengal.
Developed with an investment of ₹6,000 crore, the plant has an annual production capacity of 345,000 tonnes of phenol and 215,000 tonnes of acetone. The inauguration marks a significant development in India’s specialty chemicals manufacturing sector.
Integrated with HPL’s existing petrochemical complex, the facility uses propylene and benzene as feedstocks and incorporates process technology licensed from Lummus Technology. Phenol is an important raw material for polycarbonates, phenolic resins, adhesives and laminates, while acetone is widely used in pharmaceuticals, paints, coatings, personal care products and other chemical applications.
The new facility is expected to improve the domestic availability of these essential chemical intermediates, reduce reliance on imported supplies and strengthen downstream manufacturing opportunities in India. It also creates a foundation for developing higher-value chemical products and expanding the industrial ecosystem around Haldia. The project represents an important step towards strengthening the country’s domestic chemical production capabilities and supporting future industrial growth.
