Recoup to Address Supply Chain Challenges at Inaugural Plastics Assembly

Recoup is set to host its inaugural Plastics Assembly on 1 October, bringing together industry professionals to address key challenges in managing plastics across the supply chain.

The one-day event will take place from 9am to 4pm at Holiday Inn Peterborough – West. The programme will focus on the evolving landscape of plastics recycling and its role in supporting more circular systems. It will also explore current policy developments, sustainable product design, and ways to encourage responsible usage and disposal of plastics among both industries and consumers.

According to organisers, the event is designed as a collaborative platform for stakeholders across the plastics value chain to exchange insights and discuss practical solutions in response to growing environmental pressures and shifting regulatory expectations. Attendees will gain insights into emerging trends and priorities as the sector works toward meeting waste policy reforms in the UK and across Europe.

A strong emphasis will be placed on innovation, including advancements in new technologies, product development, and collaborative approaches. The event will also feature an “Innovation Room,” where organisations can present cutting-edge practices in plastics use and recycling.

Behavioural change will be another key theme, with discussions centred on influencing how plastics are used, managed, and disposed of throughout their lifecycle—particularly in packaging applications. Recoup highlighted the shared responsibility between policymakers and industry in driving sustainable practices.

A spokesperson noted that while policy helps set direction and consistency, industry plays a vital role in designing systems, communicating effectively, and making sustainable choices more accessible to the public.

The assembly will also examine the future of plastics within the broader push for packaging sustainability, including the impact of alternative materials and developments in composite solutions.
