SIBUR Eyes Fivefold Growth in Polymer Supplies to South and Southeast Asia with AGCC Launch

SIBUR, Russia’s largest polymer producer, is aiming to significantly expand its footprint in Asia by increasing polymer supplies to South and Southeast Asian markets fivefold by 2030.

This growth will be driven primarily by the launch of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC), a major new production facility located in Russia’s Far East.

With an annual capacity of 2.7 million tonnes of basic polymers, AGCC is expected to become the most efficient polymer production site in Russia and rank among the largest globally. The facility is scheduled to begin polyethylene production in 2026, followed by polypropylene output in 2027, enabling SIBUR to strengthen its presence across key Asian markets.

Speaking at the ChinaPlas SIBUR Conference in Shanghai, Natalia Burlina, Head of SIBUR’s New Projects Go-to-Market Division, highlighted that demand in emerging Asian markets is growing rapidly. This growth is largely driven by sectors such as packaging, healthcare, hygiene, and infrastructure development, with much of the region’s demand currently met through imports. She noted that the commissioning of AGCC will allow SIBUR to substantially scale up its supplies to these markets over the coming years.

SIBUR has already been expanding its presence in South and Southeast Asia and continues to enhance its customer service through localized sales and technical support. To ensure efficient distribution, the company is exploring multiple logistics routes, including transshipment through Chinese ports and direct shipments from Russian seaports to destination markets.

The AGCC product portfolio will include more than 20 high-demand polymer solutions. These range from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) for packaging films and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for applications such as blow moulding, injection moulding, films, monofilament, and pressure pipes, to polypropylene (PP) yarn for raffia and nonwoven materials, as well as BOPP for packaging. Backed by its strong R&D capabilities, SIBUR also plans to offer customized solutions tailored to specific customer requirements.
