Yokohama Strengthens OHT Supply Chain Through India and Mexico Expansion

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is expanding its global Off-Highway Tyre (OHT) manufacturing operations by setting up new production facilities in India and Mexico as part of its strategy to strengthen in-house manufacturing following the acquisition of Goodyear’s Off-the-Road tyre business in 2025.

The company plans to invest around $245 million in the two projects, which together are expected to add nearly 20,000 tonnes of annual production capacity. In India, Yokohama will establish a greenfield plant in Gopalpur, Odisha, with an investment of about $130 million to produce tyres for mining and construction machinery, with commercial operations targeted for the third quarter of 2028 and an annual capacity of 9,150 tonnes.

Meanwhile, in Mexico, the company will develop an OHT production unit in Saltillo, Coahuila, as the second phase of its existing tyre manufacturing project, investing nearly $115 million to manufacture tyres for mining, construction, and agricultural applications. The Mexican facility is expected to produce 10,650 tonnes annually and begin operations in the second quarter of 2028.

Yokohama is also expanding production at its recently acquired Romanian facility while increasing output at existing plants in Japan, the Czech Republic, and India. Through this growing manufacturing network, the company aims to reduce dependence on external production, strengthen supply capabilities across all OHT categories, improve profitability, and enhance its competitiveness in global markets.
