Italian tyre manufacturer secures an additional year as Formula One’s exclusive tyre supplier, reinforcing a partnership that has shaped the sport for more than a decade.
Pirelli will continue as the exclusive tyre supplier for Formula One until the end of the 2028 season after reaching an agreement with Formula One and the FIA to extend its existing contract by an additional year. The deal strengthens Pirelli’s long-standing role in the championship and ensures continuity as the sport navigates a period of significant technical and regulatory evolution.
The Italian tyre manufacturer has served as Formula One’s sole tyre supplier since 2011, providing tyres for every team and playing a critical role in race strategy, performance, and safety. Under the new arrangement, Pirelli will also continue supplying tyres for the Formula 2 and Formula 3 feeder series, maintaining consistency across the FIA’s single-seater racing ladder.
The extension comes as Formula One enters a new technical era marked by evolving vehicle regulations, sustainability goals, and ongoing efforts to enhance competition. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem described the agreement as an important step in maintaining stability within the championship while supporting innovation and collaboration among stakeholders.
Pirelli has worked closely with teams, drivers, Formula One, and the FIA to develop tyre technologies that meet the sport’s changing requirements. The company has played a key role in adapting tyres to major regulatory changes, including the introduction of 18-inch wheels and the development of new tyre specifications for future racing seasons.
Beyond Formula One, the partnership provides Pirelli with a global platform to showcase technological advancements and transfer motorsport innovations into commercial tyre development. The company views Formula One as a valuable testing ground for research in performance, durability, sustainability, and safety.
Industry observers note that the contract extension reflects confidence in Pirelli’s technical capabilities and its ability to support Formula One’s long-term objectives. As the championship continues to grow globally, the renewed agreement ensures that teams and organizers will benefit from a stable and experienced tyre partner through the 2028 season.
