JK Tyre and NIE Mysuru Sign MoU to Advance AI-Driven Automotive Research

Industry-academia partnership will focus on AI-based tyre inspection, predictive analytics, research collaboration, and hands-on learning for engineering students.

The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, and JK Tyre & Industries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in automotive research, innovation, and technology development. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial applications while equipping engineering students with practical experience in emerging technologies.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Rohini Nagapadma, Principal of NIE Mysuru, and Dr. Arun Jaura, Chief Technology Officer of JK Tyre. The collaboration will promote joint research projects, knowledge exchange, innovation initiatives, and student engagement in real-world industrial challenges.

As part of the initial phase, both organizations have identified projects focused on artificial intelligence (AI)-based tyre surface defect detection and predictive analytics. These initiatives will leverage advanced AI and data-driven technologies to improve tyre quality inspection, manufacturing efficiency, and predictive maintenance while providing students with hands-on exposure to cutting-edge engineering solutions.

The partnership is expected to create opportunities for faculty members, researchers, and students to work alongside industry experts on practical problem statements relevant to the automotive and mobility sectors. Through collaborative research and technology development, participants will gain valuable insights into industrial processes, product innovation, and advanced manufacturing techniques.

JK Tyre stated that the collaboration reflects its continued commitment to fostering innovation through strong industry-academia partnerships. By combining the company’s technological expertise with NIE’s academic capabilities, the initiative seeks to accelerate the development of AI-driven manufacturing solutions while nurturing a skilled workforce prepared for the future mobility ecosystem.

The MoU also aligns with the broader trend of increasing collaboration between higher education institutions and industry, enabling students to develop industry-relevant skills while supporting companies in solving complex engineering and manufacturing challenges through research-led innovation.

With artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and smart manufacturing becoming integral to the automotive industry, the partnership between JK Tyre and NIE Mysuru is expected to contribute to technological advancement, talent development, and innovation across India’s automotive sector.
