The redesigned range introduces three tread patterns, four casing options and three compounds for trail, enduro, freeride and downhill riding.
Pirelli has introduced its new Scorpion Gravity mountain bike tyre range, completely redesigning its gravity-focused MTB portfolio for riders across trail, enduro, freeride and downhill disciplines. The new range simplifies product selection through three tread patterns named Black Sting, Emperor and Red Claw, each developed for different terrain conditions.
The Black Sting is designed for hardpack and firm, compact terrain, with a tread intended to provide low rolling resistance and responsive handling. Emperor is positioned as the all-round option for mixed terrain and changing trail conditions, balancing traction, control and rolling efficiency. Red Claw targets loose, dusty and challenging terrain, with an emphasis on traction and control.
Pirelli has also expanded the range with four casing constructions: ProWALL, HardWALL, DualWALL and DHWALL+. ProWALL is the lightest option, while HardWALL adds structural support and impact protection. DualWALL is intended for more aggressive enduro, bike-park and freeride applications, while DHWALL+ provides the highest level of protection for downhill racing.
All four casings are designed to be compatible with conventional mountain bikes as well as light and full-power e-MTBs. The range also offers three compounds — Medium, Soft and Supersoft — allowing riders to adjust the balance between grip, rolling efficiency and durability according to their riding requirements.
The development of the new Scorpion Gravity range involved three-time Downhill World Champion Fabien Barel, alongside Pirelli-supported riders including Brendan Fairclough, Jack Moir, Thomas Genon, Juan Diego Salido, Fabio Wibmer and Lachlan Blair. Their input was used during development and testing across different terrains and riding conditions.
Pirelli’s new naming structure is designed to make the range easier to understand, with riders first selecting the tread according to terrain, then the casing according to required protection and finally the compound according to their preferred performance characteristics.
The company has made the new Scorpion Gravity tyres available online and through selected cycling retailers, expanding its MTB portfolio with a more modular approach to tyre configuration.
