Ahmedabad-based polymer manufacturers begin exports to the UK under the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, unlocking new duty-free opportunities for India’s plastics industry.
The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) has opened new export opportunities for India’s polymer industry, with Ahmedabad-based polymer manufacturers among the first businesses to ship products to the United Kingdom under the landmark trade pact. The first consignments, dispatched on 15 July 2026, demonstrate how the agreement is expected to strengthen the global competitiveness of India’s plastics and polymer manufacturing sector.
Among the seven exporters participating in the inaugural shipment is Shri Ambica Polymer Pvt. Ltd., highlighting the polymer industry’s early adoption of the benefits offered under the India–UK CETA. The duty-free market access is expected to improve export prospects for Indian manufacturers supplying polymer-based products to the UK.
Gujarat is India’s leading polymer manufacturing hub, producing a wide range of plastic raw materials, packaging products, industrial polymers, engineering plastics, and value-added polymer components. Reduced tariffs under the trade agreement are expected to make these products more competitive in the UK market while creating fresh opportunities for exporters across the plastics value chain.
The first UK-bound cargo was flagged off from Sanand, Gujarat, reinforcing the state’s position as a major manufacturing and export centre. Improved access to the UK market is expected to encourage higher exports of polymer products, supported by Gujarat’s strong petrochemical infrastructure, processing capabilities, and well-established export ecosystem.
Under the India–UK CETA, the UK has eliminated tariffs on the vast majority of Indian exports, benefiting manufacturing sectors including plastics, chemicals, engineering goods, textiles, food processing, and pharmaceuticals. The agreement is expected to enhance India’s export competitiveness while helping polymer manufacturers diversify into premium international markets.
Industry stakeholders believe the agreement will encourage greater investment in polymer manufacturing, value-added plastic processing, and export-oriented production. With improved market access and lower trade barriers, Indian polymer companies are well positioned to expand their presence in the UK and strengthen India’s role in the global plastics supply chain.
