Covestro and BYD have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a long-term strategic partnership focused on advanced materials, application development and joint innovation. The collaboration expands the relationship between the two companies beyond traditional material supply toward deeper cooperation across the value chain.
The partnership will focus on new-energy vehicles, power batteries, public transportation, energy storage and emerging technologies. Covestro will contribute its expertise in engineering plastics, polyurethane and other advanced materials to support BYD’s growing portfolio of mobility and energy applications.
A major element of the agreement is joint material innovation. The companies plan to work together on new technologies, application development and technical solutions designed to address the increasingly demanding requirements of electric mobility and energy-storage systems.
Covestro will provide dedicated R&D resources, customized technical support, early access to new material innovations and supply security as products move toward commercial volumes. BYD, meanwhile, plans to involve Covestro in its new projects and technology roadmaps across its business portfolio.
The collaboration also places emphasis on low-carbon and circular material solutions. This aligns with Covestro’s broader sustainability strategy and BYD’s expansion in electric mobility, where lightweight, durable and high-performance polymer materials can contribute to vehicle efficiency and advanced component design.
